Writing properly doesn’t happen instantly, let alone writing persuasively. It takes time, dedication, patience and above all else persistence. If you are a construction worker by profession, having the ability to write persuasively may not be your forte. Also for those that have some skill in writing, you will notice that your writing continues to get better as time passes. It really doesn’t require you to continuously practice.
Writing a blog requires you to have some skill in writing and even more skill in persuasion. You want your audience to read your blog, as well as perform additional tasks. Whether it’s to continue to the next blog post, or click on a link, it’s all about presentation and motivation. To cut down on the time and stress you may encounter, here are a few ways to get persuasive fast!
1. Follow The Leaders – learn from the best. Take a look at how they write, what words they use, and how they put those words together. As you are reading, ask yourself “how am I feeling” or “what does the reader want me to do”. Those that truly have that talent to write persuasively are able to make you feel something as you read the article. Writing similarly isn’t copying, its flattery.
2. Be Yourself – is a bit difficult to be yourself but also follow the leaders, isn’t it? Well once you have taken a look at the pros, you want to make it yours. You want to determine what your writing style is, and use similar techniques that the pros are using. Your writing style needs to match your niche, but also needs to achieve a purpose (that purpose is based on your blog/site goals).
3. Get Social – yes, this again. Getting social is the whole networking aspect, but this time you are doing it for a different reason. You are finding out what readers crave from the niche, why they are interested in the topic, and what makes them return. You need to first write for yourself and then write for the public. When the two are in line, you will become a much more persuasive writer. As it is easier to write for yourself and if that is in line with the public, well you get the picture.
4. Repeat Some More – repetition is important when you are trying to persuade someone. That means that you want to repeat your key point throughout your post, as repetition is important when you are trying to persuade someone. Also if you are trying to persuade someone, be sure to repeat. So the lesson here is to repeat your main argument or point, as it will help persuade them. Get it? Got it? Good!
5. Give Them A Reason – sometimes a reader is unattached from a specific topic. To get them involved you need to create a reason that will create some feeling inside them. People are going to ask “why” a thousand times, until they get a reason, and sometimes even a wrong reason is reason enough. So give your readers a reason as to reading your content. For example, “IT’S THE BEST!”
6. Be Consistent – be consistent with your message. If you believe your product or blog post is the best, then stick with it throughout the blog post or product. Even if there is some doubt in your mind, being consistent, will win over your readers. You need to believe that what you are providing will be beneficial to others. There will always be doubters and nay-sayers. If you remain consistent, readers will agree with at least partially what you have to say.
7. Prove It – sometimes readers need some proof, and doing that online can be fairly complicated. A solution for this is to get testimonials of those who are satisfied with what you have provided them with. If you provide a product or service, and the users are satisfied, have them write a testimonial, or even a video testimonial. It’s a great way to show new customers how happy previous customers are with your service, and how happy those new customers can be.
8. Compare and Contrast – in many cases you may be doing something similar to other people. You may be providing a similar product, but better. A great way to show your audience the quality of your service/product, is to compare and contrast. Show them how the competition is holding up against your far more superior product. The ones truly interested will realize that you are providing a much better product/service.
9. Provide A Solution – if you aren’t providing a product or service, but are wanting to gain some footing in an already crowded niche, try providing a solution to a problem. Providing solutions shows readers that you have done your homework, and realized where more work is needed. Readers will begin to see you as somewhat of an expert; and we all know how experts are revered.
10. Passion For Your Story – persuasion can also happen by demonstrating your passion for something. If you are truly satisfied with soy based shakes and feel that it is better than milk; then write passionately about it. Passion will always come out in a writers’ work and if you are passionate this will help persuade your audience.
11. Make Them Feel – creating emotions in your readers is a great way to persuade readers. If your audience can relate to your story, or put themselves in your shoes, they will be more likely to react positively and perform something that you ask them. If a reader is unattached, they will be less likely to finish reading your post, and even more unlikely to do anything you ask them.
Remember, learning to write persuasively doesn’t happen overnight, so keep at it. Also be sure to read how others are writing, and this will further help you with your persuasion writing skills.
